LECTURES

WEEK 7 / 15.05.2023
Mr Kamal started by giving feedback and I need a lot of improvement in my exercise 3. Then he started the lecture for project 1.

Animation method
1. Straight ahead
- Flexibility - overlapping action
2. Pose to pose - planning
- Key
- Extreme
- Breakdown
- in between
(timing, 2 steps a second)

WEEK 8 / 22.05.2023
It's an independent learning week

TUTORIALS

WEEK 7 / 15.05.2023
In class, we try to animate the walk cycle. First, we did the legs first, the hips (rotate left-right, up-down, diagonal), and last is the arm. Here is what I did in the class.

It's so hard, especially the hip part. Not only that. We need to edit the graphic editor as well. We need to really understand the graph editor. Here is my first try. It looks weird.

WEEK 8 / 22.05.2023
It's Independent learning week.

NEXT TO DO

WEEK 7 / 15.05.2022
- Do Project 1
- Deadline: 29 May 2023

WEEK 8 / 22.05.2022
- Finish the Project 1

EXERCISES

WEEK 7 / 15.05.2023
After I did the revision for exercise 3, I continue with doing project 1.
The first project is walk cycles (normal and attitude). We need to learn to utilize the two methods of animating things in 3D, pose to pose for planning and straight ahead for flexibility by animating the walk cycle. Here is the instruction.

There are two characters that have provided

I used Snow (male) as my character.

WEEK 8 / 22.05.2023
Since I only have a little time to do my work because of other modules. I just started to do it this week and it's last minute. Before I did it, I was looking for real-life references and animators that have YouTube tutorials.

Here are my references.
I refer to this animator to understand how to make a walk cycle in 3D animation. The more I do it the more I understand it.

This Youtube provides different attitude walks. I think I will choose the sneaky walk.

This is a real-life example of the sneaky walk.

Then I'm starting to do it. I did the standard (vanilla) walk cycle first. Here is the Vanilla Walk progress.

First pose and end pose have to be the same pose.

Middle Pose

Make the leg slightly higher and then copy and paste again to the other leg.

Same way for the hands.

Here is the result for Normal Walk of each side.

Next, I started to do the attitude walk. I did it for Sneaky Walk. Here is my progress.

The first and end need to be the same.

The mid is the flip version.

Put the leg higher, put down the shoulder, and adjust the other details

And don't forget to copy and paste to the other side.

Here is the result of the Attitude Walk on each side.

Then last but not least, I combined everything into one video in Adobe Premiere Pro.

SUBMISSION

WEEK 9 / 29.05.2022
Project 1A: Walk Cycle Animation
PROJECT#1A

FEEDBACK

WEEK 9 / 29.05.2022
Vanilla Walk
- The hip can add more on the right and left.
- Looks a bit jerky on the legs, maybe the hip a bit too high
Attitude Walk
- The arc spine can improve more

REFLECTION

I love how Blender calculate all our animation so sometimes they can do what I want. 3D blender is not as bad as I thought but still hard for me to get used to it. I'm still confused with the graph editor because it's too technical. Glad that I'm ok with the math subject. I'm also still struggling with the camera angle. In most of my projects, Mr Kamal keeps saying that my camera angle is not the best one. Sometimes I feel I regret choosing Animation as my specialisation because it's too hard and all of my classmates so diligent. However, I'm glad that I learned 3D animation in this module, I believe at the end if I'm willing to learn more, I can make something cool with it. I feel that the credit module is a bit too heavy I hardly get enough sleep.
