RESEARCH

WEEK 7 / 11.10.2023

For the second project, we have to expand the design developed for the competition by emerging the context with creative technology to express “playfulness” at the heart of the experience. We need to think of creating design and content that creates awareness, educates our audience and triggers playful reactions.

After receiving feedback from Ms Anis and being considerate about educating the audience, before the class starts, I'm thinking about the ideation.
1. Story Book (referring to the legend of zodiac animals)
2. Recreate the Chinese zodiac test
3. Chinese zodiac app

While I did the research, I couldn't find a good one for numbers 2 and 3. I decided to go on with my first idea.

I also did research about how's the children's book size and how to make the book (since this is my first time making a book).

This week, I did the script first before I continued to do the illustration.

This week, I can only prepare the font.

WEEK 11 / 08.11.2023
This week, I'm starting to draw it back in Adobe Illustrator. Here is my progress so far.

I'm following my Project 1 style. I'm not sure whether should I follow my project 1 or change it into more colourful because is a children's book. I put the Chinese character in the berries to follow Project 1 as well.


WEEK 12 / 17.11.2023
Once it's approved, I will continue it until finished. Here is my progress.

WEEK 13 / 24.11.2023
I planned to finish all the illustrations before I dive into Adobe InDesign. Here is my progress.

Some of the patterns (such as batik), I need to edit it in Photoshop.

WEEK 14 / 01.12.2023
After I finished all the illustrations, I imported them all to InDesign.

Then I put the text, Indonesian version and English version.

- You can make it as a children's book for you second project.

- I like how you re-create the words in child-style, which is very interesting storytelling.
- You can combine some of the illustrations to save your time

REFLECTION

I'm glad that I took this Design Exploration module for my course. I learned a lot of things about how to explore more about what I am capable of. Not only do what I can (about animation, my specialisation), but Ms Anis encouraged us to do something that we're not familiar with. I'm choosing the Graphic Design field (Children's book) as my second project. With Ms Anis guiding my project, I can achieve my satisfaction with my (very first) illustration book. Since this is for a child, I learned that I need to consider the book size, text size, colour, and illustration that fit with Children's Age. The challenge that I faced was how I created the second project using the first project assets. At first, I was pessimist about my second project because it's batik. A little bit hard for me to explore it more. Gratefully Ms Anis gave a lot of insights and ideation about my project 2. I tried to create it with the same as Project 1's main colour (white bone, maroon red, and navy blue). It's challenging and interesting at the same time. Through this project, I can find how's my style. I'm really grateful for taking on this project with Ms Anis.
