LECTURES

Week 1 / 01.04.2022
Today, Ms Anis and Mr Martin, our facilitators, gave us some briefing about the module information booklet (MIB), individual and group set-up on google drive, exercises and projects for individuals and groups. After the briefing, we have to form a group of 5-6 people for the last project.

Week 2 / 01.11.2022
Today, Ms Anis give a flip 02 presentation to several groups. It's about Saul Wurman's LATCH.
L.A.T.C.H is a method of information organization that consists of these principles:
  • Location
  • Alphabet
  • Time
  • Category
  • Hierarchy
These are examples.

For other exercises like Mr Martin Practical is on the Final Project Blog.

PRACTICAL

Week 1 / 01.04.2022
Ms Anis started to explain to us about Exercise 1: Quantify & Visualize data. (Source: Google Slides)

Fig. 2.1 / Exercise 1, Week 1 (01.04.2022)

For the offline class, they got lego in class. For the online class, we need to find objects around us that can be used as data. There are 2 options for this exercise.
Option 1: A jar of the stuff
Option 2: Emergency bug out bag

Fig. 2.2 - 2.3 / Data, Week 1 (01.04.2022)

I chose option 1. I have lots of markers in my home.

Fig. 2.4 - 2.5 / Data and Arrange Data, Week 1 (01.04.2022)

Since the markers are quite space-consuming and won't fit on HVS paper only, I'm planning on a larger medium. Finally, I tried to put it on the glass table. For the data, I wrote it down with a black whiteboard marker so that it can be erased easily. When I arranged the markers, I think I have too many markers in my home hahaha. For my first attempt, I just arranged by the colour and the brand (tbh, it's a little bit weird).

Fig. 2.6 - 2.7 / First Attempt and the Data, Week 1 (01.04.2022)

Data of Markers:
1. Big Markers
- Snowman
- Artline
2. Medium Markers
- Snowman
3. Highlighter Markers
- Indomaret
- Princess
- Marqu

Fig. 2.8 - 2.9 / Second Attempt, Week 1 (01.04.2022)

Suddenly, I thought about making a dress from a ballerina. It was kind of hard when I drew the ballerina's hand and the tables of data. So I decided to draw her hands without fingers.

Fig. 2.10 - 2.11 / Second Attempt and the Data, Week 1 (01.04.2022)

After I received feedback from Ms Anis, I also agreed with her opinion on how my work is like in a different world. therefore I decided to replace the table data part. Since I made this work on a table, where the table is often used, so 2 days ago I couldn't help but delete all the data on the table. So when there was a revision, I had to re-create it. I try to make my work as similar as possible to my previous work. Here is my third result.

Fig. 2.12 - 2.13 / Third Attempt, Week 1 (01.06.2022)

Because the shots are a bit dark, I edited the exposure, brightness, etc a bit in Adobe Photoshop. I feel the results are much better than before. Here is the final result.

Week 3 / 01.19.2022
This week, we have a new exercise, which is L.A.T.C.H (Location, Alphabet, Time, Category, and Hierarchy). These are the instructions for exercise 2.

Fig. 3.1 / Instructions of LATCH, Week 3 (01.19.2022)

My first Idea is about food from many continents. This is my research about the famous food of each continent.

Location Alphabet Time Category Hierarchy
1. Asia (https://www.idntimes.com/food/dining-guide/ayu-anggraeni/10-makanan-asia-paling-terkenal-di-dunia/1)

I made it on procreate. Here is the progress.

Fig. 3.3 / Result#1, Week 3 (01.19.2022)

However, before I finished it up, I don't like the result. I decided to make a new one. My second idea is about spider-man. There are 3 versions of spider-man (Tobey, Andrew, and Tom). Here is my research about it.

Spider-man / Peter Parker
1. Spider-man Tobey
Time: 2002 - 2007
Type: Spider-man 1, 2, 3
Location: Queens, NYC
Hierarchy: 01
Friends or Enemies: Mary Jane, Uncle’s Ben, Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, the sandman, Eddie Brock (Venom)
Green goblin, doctor octopus, sandman

2. Spider-man Andrew
Time: 2012-2014
Type: The Amazing Spider-man
Location:
Hierarchy:
Friends or Enemies: Lizard, electro, rhino, green goblin, Gwen Stacy
Lizard, electro,

3. Spider-man Tom
Time: 2016-2021
Location:
Hierarchy:
Friends or Enemies:

After that, I realised that Spider-man (Tom)'s enemy is also the previous spider-man. To be honest I'm a bit confused. So I make another idea again :').

Week 4 / 01.26.2022
My third idea is about Tinkerbell, a Disney cartoon. There are many Tinkerbell Friends of each location too. I don't use pokemon ideas because I barely know about pokemon. Here is my research. (Source: Disney Fairies)

There are many talents of each location. Actually, there is more but these are the most common ones. I'm not putting all the fairies because there aren't their photos on the internet.

Fig. 3.4 / Research#3, Week 4 (01.26.2022)

  • Tinker Talents (Aidan, Angus, Bobble, Clank, Copper, Fairy Mary, Slate, and Tinkerbell)
  • Garden Talents (Chloe, Gardenia, Olwen, Rosetta, and Sweetpea)
  • Water Talents (Humidia, Marina, Rani, Silvermist, and Tally)
  • Winter Talents (Gliss, Periwinkle, Sled, and Spike)
  • Animal Talents (Beck, Cora, Fawn, Finn, Kit, and Lise)
  • Fast-Flying Talents ( Tizzywing, Vidia, and Wisp)
  • Light Talents (Fira, Glissandra, Glory, Helios, Iridessa, Luminaria, and Luna)
Here are my references.

Fig. 3.5 - 3.8 / References#3, Week 4 (01.26.2022)

Here is my progress. First, I make the location/ map/ Pixie Hollow on Procreate.

Fig. 3.9 / Pixie Hollow, Week 4 (01.26.2022)

After that, I delete the background of each fairy and arranged it on Adobe Photoshop. I made it depending on Location, Alphabeth, and Category.

Fig. 3.10 / Almost Result, Week 4 (01.26.2022)

Then I realised that my work is not in the correct size :'). So I arranged it more. Here is my result.

FEEDBACK

Week 1 / 01.06.2022
The illustration of the ballerina dress, it looks so playful, beautiful, etc. But if you compare it with a table that is made to look serious, stiff, etc. These two seem to exist in different worlds. Maybe you can replace the information tables by using the symbol "{".

REFLECTION

Experiences
In these exercises, even though they seem easy and few, I get a lot of experience and also I enjoy them. For exercise 1, I had a little trouble when I had to fix the task. Why? Because I do it on a medium that is often used, namely a table. So I had to rework it and do it as close as possible before making revisions. For exercise 2, I'm having a bit of trouble finding the idea. I don't know much about games or storylines than pokemon, so I had to find another topic that was more familiar to me in order to work on exercise 2. I repeatedly changed the idea to adapt the LATCH concept itself. Thank God in the end, I was able to finish it well and according to what I expected.

Observations
I noticed that each method was well thought out and it turned out that there were several keys that helped me make it better looking, for example, LATCH (Location, Alphabet, Time, Category, Hierarchy). These five things really help our brain or the reader's brain to understand and understand what the author means. It's really helpful

Findings
I found that aesthetics, as well as function, can go hand in hand in this exercise. At first, I thought that usually, one would be more dominant than the other. This makes the readers or those who see can attract attention and can also be well understood by readers
