LECTURES

1. Week 5 - Lectures / 09.20.2021 (Source: Mr Fauzi's Slide)
First of all, Mr Fauzi Yusoff opened with the Lecture section. In this section, he introduced how to create a conceptual poster (research about your topic, define your concept, develop your design poster based on the research briefing). The explanation is as follows.

a. Conceptual Poster Design
Posters is a conventional medium to convey information to the target audience. Posters can be cluttered or straightforward. If too many colours, fonts, images or animated figures are involved in conveying information or message, it confuses the viewers. The power of posters in generating awareness on an issue or conveying a brand message and luring the audience into buying products or services is immense. These are 3 questions when we start brainstorming.
  • Is it a poster for brand awareness?
  • Is it an advertising poster?
  • Is it a Public Service Announcement poster?
PSA is a message in the public interest disseminated without charge, with the objective of raising awareness of and changing public attitudes and behaviour towards, a social issue. Once we’ve narrowed down our scope, we can start to do:
  • Research about our topic
  • Define your concept
  • Start to develop your design projects

TUTORIAL

Week 5 - Tutorial / 09.20.2021 (Source: Mr Fauzi's Slide)
For part 1 - Shazam, we watched the tutorial Hearst Mansion on Youtube by Mr Martin. We need to follow step by step like on Youtube in adobe photoshop. After that, we need to download images provided in google drive.

For part 2 - Reflections, Mr Fauzi taught us that we need to take our photos with technique lightning and eye-level shots.
Same with the Tutorial on Project 2A

PRACTICAL

1. Week 5 / 09.20.2021 - PROJECT PART 2A
Exercise 1
Part 1 - Shazam
In this part, we were asked to put a photo of shazam inside the Hearst mansion and there are some guidelines from Mr Martin. We need to download the pictures from google drive first. It is quite easy because Mr Martin explains it very coherently, clearly, and in detail. Here are steps by steps.

First, we need to select the Shazam photo using a quick selection tool. It's easy, fast, and satisfying, but the result is less neat than the pen tool. Second, move the Shazam into the Hearst mansion. Arrange the size using Ctrl + T and don't forget to rename it. Third, we tried to make it as the Shazam belongs to that mansion. Choose Image > Adjustment > Match colour (source: Mansion and layer: Background). Next, put the shadow in black colour (I used a very dark blue colour) using a brush tool. Reduce the opacity and blur it with a gaussian blur. Last but not least, make the reflection. We duplicate the Shazam and flip it vertically and cut the bottom legs using the pen tool. Change the brightness/ contrast and hue/ saturation of the reflection. Apply a little bit of blur and distort > ripple in the reflections. It's done! Here's is my result.

Part 2 - My Reflection
In this part, we were asked to put a photo of ourselves inside the Hearst mansion. First, we need to take a picture of ourselves with an eye-level shot and a good light condition. I only used my smartphone and sunlight as a source light. Here's my original photo.

Next, the steps by steps are almost the same as the shazam one. Using a quick selection tool and adjust it. Here's my reflection result.

2. Week 5 / 09.20.2021 - PROJECT PART 2B
All the progress is in the Template Slide

Fig. 3.1 / Part 1, Week 5 (09.20.2021)

We need to research our topic:
a. Study and gather all related information about your topic.
We need to pick three posters from the internet as our references about mental health. Here are my references.

Fig. 3.2 / Mood Board, Week 5 (09.20.2021)

b. Write a summary about your topic:
We need to summary our topic and highlight the key points of our summary. (Source 1; Source 2)
- Intro:
Mental health is a state of well-being in which an individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.
- Paragraph 1:
Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.
- Paragraph 2:
Mental health is important for overall health. Mental and physical health are equally important components of overall health.  For example, depression increases the risk for many types of physical health problems, particularly long-lasting conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. Similarly, the presence of chronic conditions can increase the risk for mental illness.
- Summary:
All in all, mental health is very important for all aspects of life, from physical and spiritual health. further more, it is very important for us to pay attention to our mental health. Let us not allow ourselves to have an unhealthy mental self-image.

c. Highlight the key points of your summary:
We utilize the highlight points in our composition of the poster.

FEEDBACK

Week 5 / 09.20.2021
💁‍♂️Mr Fauzi: "Hi everyone, thank you for your submission. Everyone is following the right technique from the given tutorial. So, there will be no individual feedback for this exercise. Good job on your D.I.Y photoshoot!"

REFLECTION

In this week, I learned how to take a good photo (eye-level). I didn't think that manipulating photos would be this easy. I used to think that editing photos with Photoshop would be very difficult. It was fun. Also, I learned about how to make posters this week. Because the explanation from Mr Fauzi and Mr Martin were coherent, clear, and detailed, it made it easier for me to understand.
