LECTURES

WEEK 9 / 31.05.2022
Mr Kamal started by giving feedback for the Karambit exercise and Project 1, however because of other modules, I can't finish it by today. We learn a new thing today.

UV unwrap and texturing
1. Camera
2. Lighting
- Illumination
- Shadow (sharp and soft)
3. Rendering
- Blender (workbench/ viewport, eeve, and cycle)
4. Material
- usually only can use cycle
- glass, rubber, wood
5. Texturing
- UV unwrap
- vertex, edge, face, UV
- use UV under edit mode
- to insert a picture for UV, choose the square size or else distorted

TUTORIALS

WEEK 9 /31.05.2022
We learn about UV Wrap today. We learn how to edit in Photoshop, understand where is the limitation part, and apply the picture to the model.

Fig. / UV Unwrap, Week 9 (31.05.2023)

Fig. / Photoshop, Week 9 (31.05.2023)

Material properties - base colour - image texture - upload the picture

Fig. / Apply, Week 9 (31.05.2023)

Look for the square shape
Fig. / wood texture, Week 9 (31.05.2023)

The texture can adjust, select the part first - grab, scale, or rotate.

Fig. / can adjust, Week 9 (31.05.2023)

Can see the project from view, under edit mode - press U - project from view

WEEK 10 /07.06.2023
Today, Mr Kamal give us a demo or tutorial for an example of a student's project.

He taught us how to make a sofa. He said to make it as a low poly first.

Fig. / Sofa Low Poly, Week 10 (07.06.2023)

Then, Mr Kamal showed us how to make a mark seam. The purpose is to group them.
Select the edge - right-click - mark the seam

Fig. / Mark Seam, Week 10 (07.06.2023)

U - a project by a view
Ctrl + L - to select the whole component in UV editing
U - unwarp (it doesn't really work well in this case

To see if it is distorted or not - (UV editing) +New - colour grid (under generate type)
Then go to the material-image texture

Fig. / Distorted, Week 10 (07.06.2023)

The size needs to be the same
Project from view - adjust the UV to make it clean look

I plan to choose the medieval era. Here is my reference.

Then I decided to choose the oriental look, I choose Japan Castle Medieval. Here are my references

Back up reference

At the end I chose my backup reference haha. I don't have enough time to do my initial idea because of other modules.  Before starting it, I look up for the references. Here are my references.

Here is my progress. I started by making the bricks as the base for the ground floor and wall.

Fig. / Bricks, Week 10 (07.06.2023)

Then I make the treasure box.

Fig. / Treasure box, Week 10 (07.06.2023)

Then I sculpt the inside of the treasure box and put coins as well.

Fig. / Money, Week 10 (07.06.2023)

Then I made the door. This is my reference for the door dungeon.

Fig. / Door References, Week 10 (07.06.2023)

Then I make the frame of the door, the wood door, and the accessories.
\
Fig. / Base Door, Week 10 (07.06.2023)

Then I applied the texture. It's distorted. I arrange the UV editing.

Fig. / UV Sclupting, Week 10 (07.06.2023)

This is the result for the door.
Fig. / dungeon door, Week 10 (07.06.2023)

I made the basic barrel first. Then smooth it out and apply the wood to the texture. Then I arrange the UV editing.

Fig. / Barrels, Week 10 (07.06.2023)

Then I made the broken model also.

Fig. / Broken barrels, Week 10 (07.06.2023)

Then I make the simple sword.

Fig. / Simple Sword, Week 10 (07.06.2023)

I also made the wood boxes.

Fig. / Wood box, Week 10 (07.06.2023)

Then I made the broken version as well.

Fig. / Broken Wood box, Week 10 (07.06.2023)

I made for the torch. I'm a little bit confused with the fire. Guess I just make the airdrop shape and make it transparent glass material. Then later I will put lights inside.

Fig. / Torch, Week 10 (07.06.2023)

Then I make the hanging shelf.

Fig. / Hanging Shelf, Week 10 (07.06.2023)

I made the skull made from the monkey (Suzzane)

Fig. / Skull, Week 10 (07.06.2023)

Then I put other things that I have made before (wine bottles, wine glasses, beer, grapes, etc)

Fig. / Other things Week 10 (07.06.2023)

This is the result without colour.

Fig. / Without colour, Week 10 (07.06.2023)

Then I put lighting and the colour. Here is the result.

Fig. / With colour and light eeve, Week 10 (07.06.2023)

After I render it in the cycle, I missed some objects and I feel the Yellow light looks a bit too bright. Here is the revision

Ready to render.

FEEDBACK

WEEK 13 / 28.06.2023
- A bit too cramped around upside, can zoom out a little bit
- Make a platform (can be bigger than or almost the same as your base) or plane but massively big
- Can make the door open and the light comes from it so the composition would be nicer.
- Detail nice, maybe smaller a bit
- The yellow lighting can reduce a bit so that the focus can be emphasized (use additional spotlight for the table area, apply blend for the softer looks)

REFLECTION

I enjoy this module for making theme-based modelling. I chose dungeon (medieval era) as my theme because I saw it a lot in the game and cartoons. I wanted to make it by my own hand and in the end I was proud of myself that I can do it. I also utilize some of the projects that I have done before (glasses and karambit). To be honest, there are still a lot of models that the wireframe is not that clean but somehow I can trick it. I was struggling with the heaviness of the file, maybe because of too many models that I made then I used a lot of lighting. Besides, I also struggle to make the fire, almost all the YouTube tutorial is not easy to model fire and the low-poly tutorial is too simple for me. All in all, I'm glad that I can finish it before the deadline and I enjoy it a lot.
