PROCESS

WEEK 4 / 24.04.2023

After finishing the slides, we record the presentation and submit task 2. We are starting to do task 3. We try to focus on the wave of waste first for the prototype because this idea is more straight forward and clear compared to other ideas. On Sunday, we tried to make our prototype. Before that, we list what stuff that we need to bring.

MATERIALS
- inhalers
- blister packs
- cardboard
- paper + newspaper
- plastic (bag, bottles, product packaging, etc)
- string
- clay
- wire
- pvc pipe
- aluminium foil (if needed)

TOOLS
- paint: acrylic, spray paint
- hot glue gun + hot glue sticks
- tape (duct tape, double-sided, etc)
- stapler
- scissors
- box cutter (blade)

NOTE
If you are going to buy materials, PLEASE get a receipt so Indeed can pay us back.

I reached campus late because I just went back to Malaysia. My group took out or separate the medicine with its packaging.

They also try to make the fish like this.

However, I'm not really satisfied with the result. I tried to make another fish.\

Then we divide our tasks and I keep making the 3D and see-through fish.

WEEK 5 / 01.05.2023
I borrowed the hot glue gun from my friend and bought the glue.

I'm starting to do the fish.

Then on Wednesday, we got feedback from the GSK.

Then on Thursday, we continue our prototype for the wave of the waste idea. I also bought PVC pipe.

Then we were discussing the feedback. What we get:
- The client like our Wave of Waste Idea
- They suggest putting the impact of the inhalers as well (air pollution, greenhouse, etc)
- If we corporate the tree, will same as other groups
- We're confused about how to combine ocean and air pollution.
- We're trying to input the air pollution and make the new idea
- We will ask Ms Lilian for help

Fig. / Discuss, Week 5 (04.05.2023)

We came out with some sketches.

We are so confused at this point. We don't know what to do, whether continue the previous Idea that GSk chooses without any changes or we will do our new idea (which has a risk that the client doesn't like because they already like the previous idea).

Then on Friday, we got new additional feedback from GSK. It seemed that they really like our Wave of Waste Idea.

We decide to wait until Monday to ask Ms Lilian's opinion.

WEEK 6 / 08.05.2023
This week, we ask Ms Lilian's opinion about the feedback from GSK and also about the ideas that we just created.

After receiving Ms Lilian's feedback, we decide to improve the wave and mangrove tree ideas. Here are our sketches

Fig. / Final Sketches, Week 6 (08.05.2023)

Then we started to make the mangrove tree.

I began to make the root together with my group mates. Then Sea made the leaves using tissue and paper. Then I stick the blister packs on top of it so that it will have a shape and be solid. Then the next meeting, Luisa and I felt that the leave using tissue and paper is not that good.

Fig. / Failed, Week 6 (08.05.2023)

I decided to make the branches of the tree using wire. It's so hard and painful.

Here is the branches.

Then I combined it with my group's work and filled all the leaves with blister packs.

After documenting it, we record our presentation and submit our prototype waiting for the feedback.

FEEDBACK

WEEK 5 / 01.05.2022
Wave of Waste
- Beautiful idea and incorporates messaging very clearly
- Looks the same as the online reference
- Looks the most attractive
- Make the contaminated ocean more obvious (darker colour, etc)
- Prefer idea 1.1 than 1.2 (fished do not swallow blister packs or inhalers)
- The primary cause is not ocean pollution, but inhalers go to landfills (the absence of  GHG gases)
- Will be clear with a slight tweak
- the dirty part should probably go into the GSK bin

Human Actions
- Too much other waste involved

Virtuous Cycle
- the medical waste needs to be properly disposed of by incineration

The Stag
- May not be as stable as the antlers, which will be a problem during transportation.
- Related to amplifiers (might only resonate with cult fans of Morozova)

WEEK 6 / 08.05.2022
Ms Lilian
- Each of your ideas is focusing on each part
- for the 'face' thing is too many other materials
- Can you guys make the clean waves into the air(?)
- It's too hard to make the sun if the width is only 2 ft
- Try to improve the tree and wave idea so that not too tall.
- Submit a presentation of the prototype
  dl: Friday 08:00
  Record presentation

NEXT COURSE OF ACTION

WEEK 5 / 01.05.2022
- Continue the prototype. Considering the feedback from GSK.

WEEK 6 / 08.05.2022
- Finalise and finish the prototype

REFLECTION

Experience
This task, it's my first time making something using wire. I always see it from youtube but they used tools. It's kinda interesting and painful. Since I never make art installations before. It's my very first time keep amend the sketch. It's my very first time making big art. I usually did miniature only.
Observation
I observe that we as a designer need to be open-minded, can't really do what we want. Do as what client wants, because we're not an artist. It's human-centred.
Finding
I found that making an art installation as a designer is not as easy as I thought. I always make a miniature as what I want. So this is a new experience for me. I am really grateful I can take this module. Sometimes it feels fun when we know what we need to do, however, we feel stressed also because we don't know what to do, and we feel stuck.
