ASSIGNMENT 1: Draft Dissertation

At this stage, students will begin to put together relevant primary and secondary data to form analysis, discussion and conclusion revolving around their research problem. This is where the draft of the dissertation is the outcome. Students are to utilise primary and secondary data to write an in-depth evaluation, no less than 7000 words, that critically analyses and discusses their research problem and arrives at a conclusion.

The contents of the dissertation are as follows:
• Acknowledgements
• Abstract
• Table of Contents page
• Introduction to the dissertation
o Research Rationale, Research Theme/Topic and Research Problem
        o Problem statement
        o Research objectives
        o Research questions
        o Research Conceptual Framework Diagram
• Literature review
• Research Methodology
• Results/ Findings
• Analysis and discussion
• Conclusion
• Project Recommendation / Future Research
• Reference list
• Appendices (sample interview questions and questionnaire questions)

During weekly tutorials, students must present their progress. Individual tutorial feedback online forms will be filled out by the students to record the students' learning progress as reflective practice based on feedback provided by the lecturer.

FEEDBACK

WEEK 1
  • General Feedback: If you did great in the previous semester, you don’t need to worry about this task. Refer to you Mendeley again

WEEK 2
  • General Feedback:
This Sunday (11th September 2022), 1st the interim dateline, for Draft Dissertation Section 2, Literature Review. Don’t procrastinate. Pay attention to Citation APA
  • Specific Feedback:
It’s still relevant to put the rendering. Add “of” to the title. Maybe this title work for you “ A Study of Skintone in 3D Animation through Lighting”.
WEEK 3
  • General Feedback:
This Sunday, (18th September) is the interim dateline for the Research Methodology section 3 as part of the Draft Dissertation document.
  • Specific Feedback:
    It’s Public Holiday
WEEK 4
  • General Feedback:
If possible do not start the sentence with the word "with"
  • Specific Feedback:
Should be qualitative research. Focus group is different. Later in sec 4, the important thing is how you interpret their answers. Look for the similarity and the conclusion.
WEEK 5
  • General Feedback:
Put ‘described in sections..’ to invite readers to understand more clearly without being confused when they start. Read it as a reader. Don’t use ‘I’. Call yourself a researcher or your name. there is some word that can only mention as number spelling not ‘number’. The number is only for percentages etc.
  • Specific Feedback:
In section 4 Results, write as is, even though there are some respondents' answers that are not appropriate. The purpose is not to manipulate the results of online interviews. If there is a question that is quantitative, not qualitative, also explain it so as not to misunderstand readers. Expand the table to better explain section 4 qualitatively. Look on the internet for examples
WEEK 6
  • General:
keyword in abstract max 5 words.
  • Specific:
After you did the conclusion, go back to the introduction and go back again to the conclusion.
WEEK 7
  • General:
The figure number needs to be the same as the subsection. For ex: in section 2, it means figure 2.1, 2.2, etc. Don’t be too straightforward. Try to be as descriptive as you can. After you finish it, submit it as a pdf file.
  • Specific:
In conceptual framework, the importance of what? Put the ‘not overwhelmed’ under the ‘believable’, because usually if besides its pros and cons. Change the word ‘not overwhelmed’ into something else. Your project recommendation is too brief. You can make it as a graphic, table, etc. You can put animation pipeline or pre to post-production. You can put a table of advantages and disadvantages for primary data to support your research.
WEEK 11
  • General:
    This weekend is the deadline
You can communicate everything, don’t stress yourself out
  • Specific:
Some of the sentences you need more explanation so that you won’t see plagiarism.
Paid attention to your in-text citation
Paid attention to your references as well, should APA 7th edition
Be consistent on the figure/ table position (up or down)
Make sure that from chapter 1 to the next one, there is a break page.

REFLECTION

WEEK 1
This week, I almost can’t join the class because of the wifi internet problem. I kept disconnected from teams, and when I could join again, Dr Hayati finished her class. Thankfully the class was recorded so I can watch the lecture again.

WEEK 2
At first, I was blurry about the task, but when I watched the youtube that Dr Hayati provided, I’m more clear now about the task but I am still feeling insecure.

WEEK 3
This week's task is about research methodology. It is easier and lighter than the previous week's literature review. On the other hand, I’m confused with my analysis method. Last time I remembered that Dr Hayati mentioned that mine is a qualitative method, which I believe so. But in the final project last semester, she said it should be quantitative. However, I haven't received any reply yet, so I decided to fill in what I believe.

WEEK 4
This week's task is about the results section. I gained a better understanding after I received the feedback and read the lectures that Dr Hayati provided in the google classroom.

WEEK 5
This week’s task is about the discussion section. Dr Hayati said that this discussion section would be the most 'fun' section. Indeed, I think this section is a section that combines everything and draws the real answer. All my ideas and thoughts are in my head but I don't know how to write and start them. And also I have to write using academic writing and this is not easy in my opinion.

WEEK 6
This week’s task is about the conclusion, introduction, and abstract parts. I only did the introduction without the conclusion part while there was a tutorial session. Because I didn’t have a lot of significant progressions, I didn’t put my name in the tutorial section. But overall I feel more chill than before because I only did the opening and closing for this section.

WEEK 7
After I complete everything it feels good. Thankfully I can finish this project. I’m very grateful that Dr Hayati patiently gave us feedback to make our research even better. I’m very grateful too that I can finish it before the deadline. I thought I can take a rest without thinking about any task again but then project 2 came out already. I felt a bit sad but then because of the independent learning week, I feel much better.
