This week, we will make our phone cases design. We split our task.
1. Typography: Abigail, Ayaan, and Huiying
2. Illustration: Devina and Haura
3. Photograph: Lene and Hussain

I decided to make one line art style. This is my sketch.

After Mr Vinod see our works, he said that it's much better to include lyrics/rebellious quotes for each cover. It's more organised and can rationalise better also. So we try to revision or remake our design phone cases. Here are the quotes that we search together.

"Youth gone wild" - Skid row
"Rock ‘n’ Roll Rebel" - Ozzy Osbourne
"I'm into rock 'n' roll because rock 'n' roll, to me, means freedom." - Ozzy Osbourne.
"The great thing about rock and roll is that someone like me can be a star." - Elton John
"Highway to Hell" - AC/DC
"For those about to rock we salute you" - AC/DC
"We believe we'll catch the rainbow" - Rainbow
“Another brick in the wall” / “All in all you’re just another brick in the wall” - Pink Floyd
"We don't need no education/ We don't need our thoughts controlled" - Pink Floyd
"I wanna rock and roll all night" - Kiss
"Just an Earth-Bound Misfit" - Pink Floyd
"Not a Rebel without a Cause" - Angelina Jolie

Here are our final works. The template is from Good Mockups.

FEEDBACK

Week 6
  • General Feedback:
    Share visual progress next week.
  • Specific feedback:
Determine the best medium to communicate the message (Digital / Physical). Think like fine artists when creating the output. Share visual progress next week.
Week 7
  • General Feedback:
Finish the blogs by this week Friday.

  • Specific Feedback:
Make sure to relate the craft to the rebellious nature of the culture. Find text that relates to the rebellious nature and images that match the text then work on the crafting.

  • Other Feedback:
The typo is either to small, to many, not discernible or not well integrated with the image. In some cases the illustrations are amateurish. All that said the direction is clear now

Advise: Words *must* be readable (or discernible) and and occupy a good amount of space. The illustrations, if you want them, need to be of better quality (probably best to just use or extract from the album art, since you are already using photos that are not yours). There must be better integration and interplay in the words and the visual. The visuals *must* not be the central or dominant element. Choose your words/statements carefully; it must not be too long I.e.: 5 words or so and “youth gone wild” or “Rock and Roll Rebel” is not a strong enough statement, it doesn’t prompt one to do something no?

Do better. Do it quick. Start working on the production of the presentation (laser cutting cases, working out how thick, deciding what type of board or how it will be presented, etc.)

REFLECTION

Experience
In this module, I got a lot of experience. One of them is about making a phone case design about rock and roll. Frankly, I've almost never drawn or illustrated a picture about rock and roll before because I didn't like that genre before. So all this stuff is new and the first time for me. On the other hand, there are many challenges that we must overcome together. Differences of opinion, different ideas, different points of view.

Observations
I observe that each of us has different interests, ideas, and creations. Here I also learned a lot about how not to put myself first. There were many results which were my hard work but in the end, my work was not used because it did not suit the majority of my group. I learned to accept gracefully so that the ultimate goal of our group is achieved in the end.

Findings
I found there were a lot of challenges in this module. All of my group mates are together trying to reach the desired midpoint. I am grateful to have a group that is responsible, willing to solve, and also reliable. Especially for the group leader who contributed a lot.
