LECTURES

Week 1 / 01.05.2022
Introduction to Information Visualization
(Source: Google Slides)

40% of people are responding more to visuals than to text. 90% of information transmitted to the brain is visual. Visuals are processed 60,000x faster in the brain than text. Here's why visual information is important.

The ultimate goal of visualizing information is to reveal the intricacy of the world in uncomplicated terms that are simple to comprehend. On top of that, information design seeks to add knowledge to the information it displays through spatial, quantitative, and chronological relationships. Here is an example of an effective infographic that breakdown complicated numbers into visual.

I found the example of bad infographics on google. Actually, it is not that really bad, it's just full of text, no visual. I tried to rework by using Canva online tool. Here is a bad example.

Ratings 1-10
Difficulty: 2/10
Usefulness: 10/10
Template Design Options: 8/10

Advantage/ Disadvantage
Advantage: Easy to understand and present; many access to photos, videos, gifs, barcodes, music, etc; many options for templates, colours, fonts, etc.
Disadvantage: Not all facilities are free; really hard if you do it on a phone/ small screen.

FEEDBACK

Week 1 / 01.11.2022
Good job! People who previously didn't understand anything about infographics after seeing this, they will definitely understand.

Week 3 / 01.25.2022
Well done. Straight forward. Easy to digest. Excellent example. Good job

REFLECTION

I learned a lot in this module, especially about Miller's Law. It turns out that what I've been seeing every day has a theory and there are ways to make a job look more informative and aesthetic. In addition, I also learned to always work together in group work this time. I learned to prioritize common interests and there is an effort that must be expended in this module as well. This module is quite relaxing but I got a lot of information
