LECTURES

Week 8 / 10.11.2021
💁‍♀️: It's Independent Learning Week

Week 9 / 10.18.2021 (Source: Mr Fauzi's Slide)
This lecture is about our next Project 4.

Realism Vs Surrealism
Realism
Takes subject matters of the ordinary and common world which we call "reality." It almost always takes a non-exotic and non-extraordinary subject matter and theme. There is no need to think outside of the box, as that is not "real."

Surrealism
A twist on Realism. It explores the subconscious mind, with subject matters concentrating on dream-images and often aims to distort the ordinary and what we call reality

Fig. 1.2 / Surrealism, Week 9 (10.18.2021)

Surrealism defies logic. Dreams and the workings of the subconscious mind inspire surrealistic art (French for "super-realism") filled with strange images and bizarre juxtapositions. Fueled by the teachings of Freud and the rebellious work of Dada artists, surrealists like Salvador Dalí promoted free association and dream imagery.

Dadaism
An anti-war art movement with artworks that is satirical and nonsensical in nature.

Salvador Dalí was a Spanish Surrealist painter and printmaker known for exploring subconscious imagery.

What is Digital Surrealism?
Surrealism is a cultural movement focused on types of art to express the artist’s ideas themselves. In this digital era, surrealism is one of the top digital art styles.

How to Start Creating?
1. Capturing your Dream
a. Sketch It Out
Take a piece of paper and pen/pencil or a tablet and start to sketch. Draw your vision out roughly. Don't finesse any details yet, but just lay out key points of your vision.
b. Find Reference Images
Gathering reference images will help you greatly in realizing your new idea. Gather images that directly relate to what you have in mind.

2. Mindset During Creation
a. "Does this look real?"
Surrealism is at its best when it's convincing enough that it could be real, however, we obviously know that the subject matter you are creating is nonexistent, this is not real.
b. Make it happen to the best of your ability.
When you try to approach something challenging, you will learn the skills you may need for next time to make it work. The worst thing you can do is be afraid and back off from your idea, because you would never learn that way

Photoshop makes it easier than ever to create surrealist images, requiring just a modicum of photomontage skill to produce impressive results.

PRACTICAL

Week 9 - Practical / 10.18.2021
This week, Mr Fauzi check out our progress and gave us some feedback. Mr Fauzi wanted me to erase the things that are not related and not important to the poster. Since I already finished, Mr Fauzi suggests I erase them with the clone stamp tool and Mr Fauzi also gave me the demo of how to use it. It's quite simple and easy. Next, Mr Fauzi wanted me to change the typeface to be more fit well. He said, maybe I can search the font from here and take some references to the title design. Finally, I change the model of the title into another sketch.

Here's my Final Result.

FEEDBACK

Week 9 / 10.18.2021
The concepts are great. You can remove the things that are not related to the poster with Clone Stamp Tool. You can change the font design of your title into more fit as well. Before you submit it, please inform it first for feedback.

REFLECTION

The explanation and feedback from Mr Fauzi are really clear so that I can know in detail what would I repair to make more good. This week, I learned about surrealism too, it's interesting. After I look at seniors' work, I feel like I can't wait for doing project 4.
